Almora :
Perched on a hillock at an elevation of 1,646m, Almora appears like a large horse shoe, Sitoli forming the front arm and the bazaar the other. In the 16th century, the capital of the Chand rulers was shifted from Champawat to Almora. It is the district head quarter and the Vivekanand Hill Agricultural Laboratory, as well as the defence agricultural research laboratory are housed there.

Almora is a wonderful place to conveniently enjoy the spectacular snowscape of the central Himalayas. Most of the days in Almora are flawless. Almost everyday the tourist can see almost every peak. Almora allows you to enjoy the mighty Himalayas together with ridge after ridge of hills. The terraced fields, the stone slatted barrack-like village houses have so far put up a valiant fight against the encroachments of urban expansion and unplanned development.

Kausani :
Nesting amongst thick, dense pine forests, atop a narrow ridge and separated from the towering montains of the Nanda Devi range by low, medium mountains; at Kausani the grandeur of the Himalayan scenery comes alive. The view of the snow covered Trishul and Nanda Devi is so clear that one gets a feeling of the snow being within touching distance.

Kausani's beauty arrested the feet of even Mahatama Gandhi, who stayed for some time at this place. The memory that brief stay of that great man lingers behind in the Anasakti Ashrama. Another great man of India the famous Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant was born here. There is small museum to earmark that sacred spot. The famous folk singer Gopidas was also inspired by the beauty of Kausani. Pinnath (10KMs), Bura Pinnath (5KMs) and Bhakot are the highest points near Kausani.

Ranikhet :
Ranikhet is the place which mirrors the best of the heavenly Himalayas; lush green forests, majestic mountains, delivate plant life and attractive wild life. To view nature and its elements in full harmony, the right place is Ranikhet.

At an altitude of 1829 mts above sea level, ths hill resort is undoubtedly a tourist's paradise. The scented mountain breeze, fresh and pure, the singing of birds, the panoramic view of the Himalayas- the sights, sounds and smell leave the onlooker spellbound.

Being a cantonment ( the place was selected as a hill staion for British troops and accordingly the cantonment was established in 1869), the Kumaon regimental Centre, Museum and Memorial are the jewels of Ranikhet.
